This paper, using an analytical-rational method, explores the concept of will from the perspective of Islamic mysticism. Scholars in the field of rational sciences have offered various definitions of true nature of will using different expressions, making it difficult to arrive at a single, unified definition. This study attempts to analyze and elucidate the statements of Muslim mystics in order to reach a coherent and broadly agreed-upon meaning. Some Muslim mystics have classified the names and attributes into the names of essence, attributes, and actions, at the level of divinity. They consider some names as names of essence, some as names of attributes, and some as names of actions, offering criteria for each group. However, other Musim mystics have classified the divine names and attributes into the names of essence, attributes, and actions, which is based on another criteria, that is, the hierarchy of existence. According to the first school, will is considered one of the names of the attributes. In the second school, will can belong to all three categories: the names of essence, attributes, and actions. This second school can address many of the problems and objections raised in discussions of divine names, and helps to resolve their complexities.
