Abstract

The fact that Allah knows all other things (plus with their qualities, details and states) is a matter of consensus among Muslim scholars. They however differ on how to explain this knowledge so that it should not lead to plurality or movement in divine essence. To explain divine knowledge, followers of transcendental theosophy have relied, among other things, on the law of ‘a simple entity is everything despite being none of them’. Based on this law, they have explicated divine knowledge in the level of essence that lies prior to actions. The phrase ‘despite being none of them’ has however created hurdle on the way of using this law in the way they liked. This study aims to look into this obstacle and the answers given. It seems that the answers are insufficient and the best way to deal with the issue is to? rely on the law of the union of the intellect with the intelligible.
