The Foundational Status of Mathematics and Scientific Secularism

Abstract
The foundational status of mathematics is recognized as one of the most important characteristics of modern science. The aim of this article is to demonstrate the influence of this principle on scientific secularism. Using a descriptive–analytical approach, the study shows that the foundational status of mathematics represents a fundamental shift in the worldview: it reduces objects to numbers and considers anything that cannot be measured quantitatively as non-scientific. Consequently, a significant portion of religious and ethical concepts, which are not quantifiable, is excluded. Quantitative orientation has also influenced the humanities as well as the qualitative concepts. Although this perspective does not overtly contradict theological or ethical notions, it has a major impact on the secularization of science. Another consequence of this approach is the predominance of a mechanistic view of man and the universe, as well as neglecting the multiple layers of existence. Furthermore, the foundational status of mathematics shapes modern lifestyles and human relationships around calculable benefits. This perspective also suffers from numerous logical and epistemological shortcomings, which are addressed at the end of the article.
