Expressions such as meaning, definition, representative, correlate, form, effect, exemplar, reality, and intelligible enabled a clear articulation of the identity of mental existence and prepared the ground for addressing the famous problem of mental existence. By introducing the notion of meaning, Ibn Sīnā took a decisive step toward resolving this problem and provided later philosophers, especially Mullā Ṣadrā, with a conceptual key for its solution. One of the most significant features of his works is his attention to philosophical concepts. While philosophers generally connected the issue of mental existence with quiddative concepts, holding that only these quiddative concepts possess mental existence, Ibn Sīnā, by appealing to examples such as motion and non-being in his discussions, opened a new path in this regard. He also systematized the arguments for the existence of mental existence and articulated the notion of the verity proposition (qaḍiyya ḥaqīqiyya) in his writings. ابن سینا به جای تعبیر "وجوده فی النفس" که از تعابیر ارسطو و فارابی است تعبیر " وجوده فى الذهن" و " موجود فی العقل" را بیان کرده است. با ادبیات نحوه وجود ذهنی در مقابل وجود عینی کمک شایانی به فیلسوفان بعد از خود کرد تا مبحث وجود ذهنی تقرر پیدا کرده و به صورت بحثی مستقل مطرح شود. تعابیری چون معنا، حد، محاکی، تابع، صورت، اثر، مثال، حقیقت و معقول توانست هویت وجود ذهنی را به روشنی بیان کند و مقدمه ای برای حل اشکال معروف وجود ذهنی شود. ابن سینا با تعبیر معنا گام بسیار بزرگی در حل اشکال وجود ذهنی برداشت و به فلاسفه بعد از خود به خصوص ملاصدرا کلیدواژه حل این اشکال را ارائه کرد. از مهمترین کارهایی که در آثار وی انعکاس یافته اشاره به مفاهیم فلسفی است. مبحث وجود ذهنی در دیدگاه حکما با مفاهیم ماهوی گره خورده است و قائلند که فقط این مفاهیم ماهوی هستند که وجود ذهنی دارند اما ابن سینا با مثال به حرکت و عدم در مباحث خود فتح بابی در این زمینه کرد. همچنین او بود که ادله اثبات وجود ذهنی را منقح کرد و قضیه حقیقیه را در آثار خود بیان نمود.
